Doing Good Better: Choices and Paradigms in the Social Ecosystem◎Willie Cheng
平常價 $39.00How can the social ecosystem transform in the new normal? If a charity is in dire need of cash, should it accept a donation that might be tainted? Willie Cheng provides his perspectives to these questions and more in his new book, a collection of essays on issues including the social ecosystem in Singapore, market values in society, the role and future of nonprofit organisations, corporate responsibility, “new capitalism”, volunteerism and values.
His analyses and logic are supported by research, case studies and examples gleaned from his many years of experience in both the social and business sectors.
Written in an easy, friendly and readable style, this book provides valuable insights for volunteers, executives and leaders in nonprofits and corporates who want to know how they can succeed in doing good better in the new world order.

Always Have Enough Money◎Tan Ooi Boon
平常價 $31.00is under-valued by almost 100 per cent, or an invitation to invest in a totally new venture that can produce profits that are possibly 10 times of your initial sum?
The answer is none of the above. The reason is simple – the best investment that you can ever make is YOU – in growing your wisdom and knowledge.
For without wisdom and knowledge, even the wealthiest person can end up poor.
And million-dollar income earners can end up with a mountain of debt.
This book aims to guide you to make informed judgments yourself, by learning ways on how you can be better in your financial planning and make all the wise decisions. You can do so only if you confront the reality that there are truly no shortcuts in planning for a comfortable life and retirement. Not everyone can become rich. But all of us can certainly try to avoid being poor – if you succeed in doing so, it means you will always have enough money.

Southeast Asian Contemporary Art Now◎Marc Bollansee
平常價 $118.00Southeast Asia is the last frontier in contemporary art and one of the least known art scenes today because its diversity and outstretched territory make it difficult to access, analyse and assess. Five years of travel, research and interviews have enabled the author to give an extensive overview of the cutting-edge art practices in the region, including painting, sculpture, installation, video, photography and performance.
An in-depth essay covers the situation of the art scenes in the six selected countries and situates Southeast Asian Contemporary Art in a global context. Faithful to his signature method, the author has interviewed around 200 artists to come up with a final selection of 23. These artists have been selected on the perceived quality of content and emotion that are combined with the appropriate raw materials and the latest technology in their artworks. It has been an explicit objective to cover most of the media used by the artists from the region. Vivid discussions with artists, art critics, gallery owners and leading collectors have allowed the author to share and fine-tune his opinions. Final artworks have been selected in collaboration with the artists, and the interaction with them has enabled the author to unlock some of the clues that allow the reader to better understand the content.

Everyday Modernism: Architecture and Society in Singapore ◎Jiat-Hwee Chang and Justin Zhuang
平常價 $65.00Everyday Modernism is the first comprehensive documentation of Singapore’s modern built environment. Through a lens of social and architectural histories, the book uncovers the many untold stories of the Southeast Asian city-state’s modernization, from the rise of heroic skyscrapers, such as the Pearl Bank Apartments, to the spread of utilitarian typologies like the multi-storey car park. It investigates how modernism, through both form and function, radically transformed Singapore and made its inhabitants into modern citizens. The most intensive period of such change happened in the 1960s and 1970s under the rise of a developmental state seeking to safeguard its new-found independence. However, the book also looks both earlier and later, from between the 1930s to the 1980s, to cover a wider range of histories, building types and also architectural styles, expanding from the International Style and Brutalism and into Art Deco and even a touch of Postmodernism.
The book’s 33 essays are richly illustrated with some 200 archival images and drawings as well as more than 90 contemporary photos by architectural photographer Darren Soh. It covers the beginnings of Singapore's modern landscape, including its first condominium, columbarium, flatted factory, and pedestrian overhead bridge, amongst others. But the book is also interested in endings, investigating how modern buildings have changed over time, and been adapted for new uses or even threatened with redevelopment today. By examining the evolution of the once exceptional into the typical and by learning how abstract spaces become lived places, the book traces how modernism has become part of everyday life in Singapore.
- Donald McNeill, Professor of Urbanism, School of Architecture, Design and Planning, University of Sydney
- Miles Glendinning, Professor of Architectural Conservation, University of Edinburgh
- Hubert-Jan Henket, Founder and Honorary President of DOCOMOMO International
Jiat-Hwee Chang is associate professor at the Asia Research Institute and the Department of Architecture, National University of Singapore.
Justin Zhuang is a writer and researcher, and co-founder of Singapore-based writing studio In Plain Words.

Author's Bio
Poon Yew Fai started practising pencil drawing as a serious hobby only after entering the workforce, despite having a love for it while growing up in Singapore.
