Loong's Tales◎Edited by Lynn Sun
平常價 $28.00Loong’s Tales: Comprising five science fiction stories centred on the figure of the Chinese dragon, the anthology presents contemporary Chinese writers’ reimagining of this ancient totem through the lens of modern science and speculative thought.
Spanning themes from genetic engineering and climate change to extraterrestrial civilisation, these stories explore how the image of the dragon evolves alongside technological progress, taking on new forms and meanings in a rapidly changing world. As noted by Xueting C. Ni, the dragon is a shared cultural symbol across civilisations, and in Southeast Asia in particular, the loong continues to inspire visions of the future. This collection brings together writers, editors, and translators from China, Singapore, and the diaspora, offering a rich, cross-cultural dialogue.
The anthology also features a foreword by Michael Swanwick (the five-time Hugo Award-winning author), who describes it as “a body of work by writers who are grappling with the darkest issues of our times but still finding reasons for optimism. Or, if not optimism, at least courage.”
Among the stories, “Regarding Why Humans Have to Seek Dragons” by Baoshu received both the 2025 Galaxy Awards and the Silver prize for Chinese Nebula Awards for Best Short Story. This work, together with “Becoming a Dragon” by Wang Xiaohai, was selected for the 2024 annual recommendation list by the Chinese Science Fiction Database.
More than a reinvention of myth, Loong’s Tales is a sustained enquiry into the relationship between civilisation, nature, and technology. The dragon here is not a relic of the past, but a living concept — reshaped, contested, and reimagined in the present. You may have heard many stories about dragons before, but not like these.

Bali 1952: Through the Lens of Liu Kang◎Gretchen Liu
平常價 $250.00In 1953, four China-born artists who had made their home in Singapore held an exhibition titled Bali. It was a sensation. The works were inspired by their sketching trip to Java and Bali in June and July the previous year. While the exhibition is recognised as a major milestone in Singapore's art history, few details of the trip have ever been revealed. Thanks to the discovery of over 1,000 photographs taken by Liu Kang during the seven-week adventure, the chronicle of their travels can now be told. With over 250 black-and-white photographs, fleshed out by Liu Kang's private diary, letters to his wife and other archival sources, this book tells the story of an inspiring journey that left a lasting legacy on Singapore's art history. With an artist's eye, Liu Kang focused his lens on landscapes, architecture and scenes of daily life that preserve a moment in time, and captured the dignity of individuals in portraits. The painterly photographs are a time capsule of Indonesian history.

homesick◎nor
20.00“at 26—/ the earthquakes began—// tell me,/ how was I supposed to feel at home// when the ground beneath me shook so fast”
homesick is multidisciplinary artist nor’s electrifying poetry collection, an ode to the growing pains of every 20-something’s search for love and belonging.
Spurred by desire, the journey to belonging unfolds against the backdrop of the heartbreaking now, a time and space shaped by the fantasies of pop culture and the State. But it is exactly when love feels out of reach that the revelations sneak in. To be homesick, it turns out, is also to laugh when it seems most absurd.
With a voice both tender and bold, nor takes us through the highs and lows of coming of age. Bittersweet and outrageous, homesick is a poetry debut poignant and pulsing with hope.

Harun has become a successful tech entrepreneur in Los Angeles, Roz is an artist struggling to stay afloat in Sydney. Now they want to return something their father stole from the forests of their homeland. In their quest for redemption they grapple with the legacy of power and corruption, dreamers and exiles, thugs and zealots. Most dangerous of all, they are haunted – by the ghosts of colonialism, the ghosts of family, the ghosts of language, and the ghosts of the forest itself.

你或許知道二○○○年四月,玫瑰少年葉永鋕殞落;
Swimming Lessons◎Malcom Seah
平常價 $28.00Growing up was never meant to be easy for Michelle Tan. Her older sister Meredith lies in a hospital ward, unconscious and barely breathing. Sorrow-stricken, the younger girl dives headfirst into her memories – the first time Meredith taught her how to swim, their first mid-autumn festival together and her father’s untimely departure. But that only accounts for Michelle’s worldly worries. She also thinks she’s being followed. By what – she can’t exactly put a finger on. Clumsily, she navigates the arduous process of growing up and coming to terms with who she truly is while a supernatural enigma looms.
Young Constable Michael Chakrabarti experiences strange happenings during his night shifts. Mysterious recurring phone calls from an exasperated girl, a ferocious, shadowy lion of mythological origin; there doesn’t seem to be an end to the peculiarity that haunts him. Demystifying the unknown has consequences.
Captain Ishaan heads the newly-inaugurated Department of Supernatural Oddities. Shouldering the burden of being at the forefront of a revolution in science that could potentially decipher the supernatural, Ishaan soon realises that he might be too close to the puzzle for his own good. Can he truly exorcise the demons of his past?
Reality is a luxury. The Truth is never linear.
In Search of Silvestr: Unravelling my granduncle’s fate, Bata, Czechoslovaks and World War Il in Singapore◎Jan Beránek
平常價 $38.00In 2017, I started my research on the fate of granduncle Silvestr Nemec, a young Czech employed by the Bata Show Company in Singapore, who volunteered to fight the Japanese when they invaded the island during World War II. He went missing in 1942 and was involved in two historic events of the falls of Singapore: the battle of Pasir Panjang Ridge where the Malay Regiment made their last stands on Bukit Chandu and the Alexandra Hospital massacre.
Over time, my quest produced whole collection of stories that spanned a century and across continents, covering not just Silvestr’s life but also the Bata company in the Far East, other Czechoslovaks who lived in Singapore before and during World War II, as well as my own journey of discovery.
Not in my wildest dreams did I expect that my research would take my so far. On many occasions - such as when I was studying how Tomas Bata organised his business, or what other Batamen captured in their diaries, letters and articles about their works and life in Singapore in 1930s - I could vividly picture Silvestr in those contexts and situations.
My book about my granduncle Silvestr was first published in Czech in October 2020.

Not So Little Red Dot: 60 Years of Singapore’s Diplomacy◎Peh Shing Huei (Editor)
35.00Singapore operates in a dangerous world — a world where might is right, where the strong eat the weak, and where small countries are, all too often, expected to submit to a brutish order.
This is the harsh reality that Singapore diplomats have faced over the past 60 years of the nation’s independence. Yet, they have clung resolutely to the belief that Singapore has the right to determine its own future. Amid violence and volatility, generations of foreign service officers have steadfastly advanced Singapore’s interests on the global stage — while remaining clear-sighted about the nature of the world we live in.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has played a critical role in charting Singapore’s path to prosperity through crisis and conflict. Ironically, its work remains largely invisible to the public. Not So Little Red Dot: 60 Years of Singapore’s Diplomacy is an attempt to peel back the curtain on six decades of foreign policy, and the men and women who have made it possible. The book spotlights seven episodes largely from the 21st century that illustrate key tenets of Singapore’s approach:
Each chapter offers an accessible reading experience by blending comics from veteran artist Cheah Sinann and prose written by a team of seven writers from The Nutgraf. The content and communications agency was behind bestselling titles such as The First Fools: B-Sides of Lee Kuan Yew’s A-Team. Not So Little Red Dot: 60 Years of Singapore’s Diplomacy is authorised by MFA to celebrate its 60th anniversary.

In the Mirror: New and Selected Poems of Wong Phui Nam◎Wong Phui Nam (Edited by Brandon K. Liew & Daryl Lim Wei Jie)
平常價 $35.00The poetry of Wong Phui Nam (1935–2022) is foundational to Malaysian literature in English, and while his early work is often cited and quoted in this regard, this edited collection of his poetry and critical essays makes it clear that his lifelong trajectory as a poet and critic is of deep interest. In the Mirror by Wong Phui Nam is a critical exploration of Malaysia’s fractured post-colonial identity and literary landscapes.
The editors worked with Wong to prepare his latest works In the Mirror (2000–22) for publication. This volume combines these with his earlier achievements, starting with How the Hills are Distant (1960–64). An introduction by the editors links Wong’s work with contemporary poetry in the region. An afterword by Wong’s contemporary Edwin Thumboo completes a volume that will be treasured for its historical context-making, but more importantly for the literary rewards of Wong’s poetry, written in unblinking confrontation with the contradictions and difficulties of writing in English in the region.
“Wong Phui Nam is one of the giants of Malaysian writing in English, a pioneering poet whose early work captured the cultural desolation of the immediate post-independence years…. His poetry collections, especially those containing multi-part poems, deserve to be read and studied in their entirety.”
- Ann Ang, National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University

Ink Studies: Everyday Practices of Calligraphy in Contemporary China◎Laura Vermeeren
平常價 $40.00Ink Studies explores contemporary practices of calligraphy in China, situating them in both a precarious and dynamic position. While people are increasingly writing less due to digitization, calligraphy is experiencing a revival partly fueled by governmental directives that promote “creativity” as a powerful discourse contributing to economic development. This book unravels intertwined imaginations of contemporary calligraphy in five different visual cultural fields in China today: calligraphy education, water calligraphy in public parks, modern calligraphic art, digital calligraphy and calligraphic font design. The various visual representations of the calligraphic sign within these fields are approached as active agents, demanding various physical and moral behaviors from practitioners. While calligraphy and creativity are often pitted against each other, as the nature of calligraphy is sustained through a culture of copying, the book challenges the perception of calligraphy as a static art, arguing instead for its creative potential in both formal and grassroots contexts.
"Vermeeren's volume is the long-awaited 'missing course' for understanding Chinese calligraphy beyond conventionalized narratives. Focusing on new forms of shufa practice in everyday lives of Chinese people, it offers rich and gratifying food for thought on creativity, modernity, and the value of art in cultural politics and broader human experiences." -- Yu Li, Loyola Marymount University
Laura Vermeeren is Assistant Professor of Cultural Heritage and Cross-Media at the University of Amsterdam, with a background in Chinese studies and a focus on creativity, everyday practices, and visual culture.
Stamford Hospital◎Thammika Songkaeo
25.00A woman. A hospital room. A marriage coming undone.
In Singapore, an ambitious, emotionally depleted expatriate mother checks her barely ill daughter into an upscale hospital—not out of medical necessity, but as a quiet, desperate act of self-preservation. For two nights, in the stillness of white sheets and fluorescent light, she finally breathes.
Her marriage is stable but sexless. Her career, stalled. Motherhood has become a performance she can no longer sustain—especially when she feels little love as a wife to a man untouched by desire.
In this raw, daring autofictive debut, Thammika Songkaeo explores what happens when a woman on the brink dares to confront the demons in her mind.
Set in Singapore but emotionally borderless, Stamford Hospital is a piercing portrait of burnout, resentment, and the silent rebellions that so often go unnoticed. This is a novel for anyone who has ever felt imprisoned by loneliness inside the very family they built.
‘Dissecting motherhood, marriage, and the cost of selfhood with razor-sharp precision.’ — Elle Singapore
Dey◎Shivram Gopinath
平常價 $24.00“Dey” is Tamil slang. A polysemic portal into community. It is “hey”, “no”, “yes”; it hails, it invites, it warns, it cajoles, it pleads, it loves. Just like Shivram Gopinath’s Dey: a cross-genre, multi- tongued celebration of diasporic desire, complaint and joy that stretches what poetry can be. Part translation, part illustration, part verse, Dey is a love child of Tamil cinema tropes and themes, Singaporean hopes and dreams. A discordant soundtrack to migrant identity, an invitation to a language game, a retort to power. Rajinikanth, Lee Kuan Yew, durian fish soup fight for your eyeballs. A thick syrupy mix, that’s what. Dey, read it.
The Mystical Mister Kay◎Meihan Boey
27.00Winner of the 2025 Epigram Books Fiction Prize
The final gripping chapter in the saga of Miss Cassidy.
The truth is out there. And somewhere, so is Miss Cassidy.
The Mystical Mister Kay, a ghost-seer from Singapore, arrives in the English city of Tolwich in search of his friend Miss Cassidy. But his investigation takes a darker turn: a princess is found dead, a cult-like fashion house holds the city in its grip, and a seminary for Asian royals hides secrets no one dares name. As gods from Ancient Greece and Asia slip into the mortal world, Mr Kay is pulled into a mystery that spans continents and mythologies—one that may bring him closer to Miss Cassidy, or destroy him trying.

The Creator's Grace Vol. 1◎Ning Yuan
23.00She came home for the truth. What she found was the woman who took everything… and wanted her most of all.
Six years ago, Ran Jin rose to power and prominence under the wing of her lover—only to be accused of orchestrating that woman’s mysterious death. Now, her late lover’s sister, Chi Yu, returns from abroad to reclaim what was stolen and uncover the truth.
But Ran isn’t the cold-blooded traitor she seems. She’s brilliant, enigmatic, and as devoted to Chi as can be.
What starts as a personal pursuit of justice spirals into obsession, as Chi unearths traces of a truth stranger than fiction—one that challenges not only the story she’s been told but even humanity itself. The deeper she digs, the more she risks for a love that feels inevitable, even if it was never meant to exist.
The Creator’s Grace is a gripping sci-fi romance about fractured identities and impossible salvation, where love may be the only truth that holds.
At The World's Mercy Vol. 1-2 (Set)◎Ning Yuan
50.00In a court of secrets, loyalty is currency—and love is the most dangerous gamble of all.
In the sprawling realm of Great Yu, power has only recently been placed in the hands of women. Generals lead armies, ministers shape dynasties, and alliances are forged as easily in the bedchamber as on the battlefield.
General Zhen Wenjun and Chief Minister Wei Tingxu appear to be the perfect couple—two brilliant women bound by marriage and ambition. But beneath the surface of silk and ceremony lies a deadly game of masks and motives. Trust is a weapon. Affection is a risk. And neither woman is exactly who she claims to be.
As rival factions stir unrest and the imperial court teeters on the edge of transformation, Zhen and Wei must navigate the shifting sands of betrayal, duty, and desire. In a world where power is never given—only taken—can love survive when everything else is strategy?
At the World’s Mercy is a masterful work of baihe historical fiction, weaving espionage, slow-burn romance, and political ambition into a tale as elegant as it is ruthless.
