海風書屋

中正中學牌坊

加東月眠路的中正中學，上個世紀50年代曾經一度朝著「萬人學校」的目標發展。總校與分校的在校學生人數，最多時超過5000人。如今雖然沒有當年的雄心壯志，但見證了本地華校歷史的校門牌坊和行政樓，已在2014年被列為國家古跡。

Chung Cheng High School Memorial Arch

In the 1950s, Chung Cheng High School (Main) on Goodman Road in Katong aspired to become a “School of 10,000”. However the school population among its two campuses (main and branch) barely exceeded 5000 at its peak. While the school no longer aspires to its bold ambition of old, its archway and administrative building, testament to the history of local Chinese schools, were listed as national monuments in 2014.

如切路店屋的鐵柵門

雖然現在的你一動也不動，但我還是能聽到兩片鐵柵門甩到一起緊閉的聲音。這時候就無法分辨，門是鎖上的，還是閉上的。

Even though you are stock still at present, I can still hear the sound of two metal gates slamming shut. In this instant, it is impossible to tell whether the gate is locked or just shut together.

濱海灣花園雲霧林

「山不在高，有仙則名。水不在深，有龍則靈。」這裡有仙山，水中也有潛行的蛟龍，但這裡也有絲竹之亂耳，和案牘之勞形。恐怕，陋室不在這裡。

Gardens by the Bay Cloud Forest

“It is not about the height of the pinnacle. What gifts the mountain with prominence is the presence of a deity. It is not about the depth of the water. What grants the pond spirituality is the presence of a dragon.” There are fairy mountains here, and dragons churning in the water, but also a cacophony of silk and bamboo and the grind of grand bureaucracy. I'm afraid the ‘shabby hut’ is not here.

偉樂坊聖誕裝飾

圓錐形的聖誕樹每年到了歲末，就會在烏節路長出來。有時候鉆到聖誕樹底部，把自己當成一份禮物，等著被人打開，也未嘗不是賞心樂事。

Changi is in the eastern part of the island, but it is a great place to enjoy the sunset. People fish on the boardwalk that lines the seafront; if there is a good catch, tonight’s dinner will not be a concern.

In the light of dusk sailboats sway in the waves, and while the boulders on the beach are clearly not the Dragon Teeth Gate, it matters not: two newlyweds come to have their photographs taken here; in hope that even when the seas run dry and the rocks crumble, their love will be undying.

梧槽坊組屋

梧槽坊政府組屋是市區入口的衛士，驅車「下坡」（指大小坡，市區）的人們，如果不願意支付進市區的費用，就會把車停在這個組屋停車場。沒想到為了建設南北交通廊道，四座顏色鮮明的組屋竟然慘遭拆除。屋頂的那群鴿子，不知道最後在哪裡落腳？

Rochor Centre

The Rochor Centre HDB flats are the gateway sentries of the city centre. Those driving downtown, reluctant to pay fees to enter the city centre, would park here. Who would have thought that, to develop the North-South traffic corridor, these four brightly coloured apartment blocks would, tragically, have to be demolished? Those flocks of pigeons on its rooftops, where are they going to end up?

佛牙寺

牛車水的佛牙寺，是近幾年才修的廟宇，但古色古香的裝潢、五顔六色的燈籠，讓人不知道身處市井，還是佛門清净地。

維多利亞紀念堂鐘樓

市區的高樓大廈林立，彷彿擁擠得沒有絲毫的空間。站在國家美術館的屋頂眺望，看到中國銀行和維多利亞紀念堂鐘樓，這兩棟白色的建築之間，正好留下讓渣打銀行冒出來的空間，不禁發出會心一笑。

Victoria Memorial Hall Bell Tower

The city is lined with high-rise buildings, so tightly packed it seems there is not an inch of free space between them. Standing on the rooftop terrace of the National Gallery, I cannot help but smile to notice that between the two white edifices of the Bank of China and the Victoria Memorial Clock Tower, there is just enough room for Standard Chartered Bank to emerge.

走在通往讚美廣場下沉式庭院的樓梯，會給人在鋼琴鍵盤上遊走的感覺。那藍調的音符，伴隨著腳下踩的低音線條，是絕佳的下酒菜。

這座聖殿當初建設的時候，肯定不會考慮到未來周邊都是破壞其風景的高樓。攝影師也只能貼身拍攝，將現代派大師的作品藏起來。

When this chapel was first built, it certainly wasn’t taken into account that one day it would be surrounded by high-rise buildings that would destroy its scenic setting. Today, photographers can only shoot it up-close, to hide the works of the Modernist masters.

上學的時候巴士會在這裡拐彎，睡了半途的學生也會在這個時候驚醒，下車後踏著《布基上校進行曲》的拍子走進校園。進行曲要重複三次，假如你下車的時候聽的是清脆的口哨聲，那就得快快跑了。

When the bus turns this corner on the way to school, the students who are half-asleep startle awake and alight, stepping into the school grounds to the beat of the Colonel Bogey March. The march is repeated three times, and if you hear a sharp whistle when you disembark, you had better run for it.

淡濱尼41街貓咪

新加坡不只是人的世界，也是動物的家園。淡濱尼組屋區遊蕩的社區貓咪不少，有很多習慣被人餵養，更有見慣了「好攝之徒」的，看見相機對準了它還能一臉安詳。

Singapore is not only a human realm, but also home to many animals. Quite a few cats roam the residential neighbourhoods of Tampines: where some become used to being fed by human hands, and many others, inured to the many roaming disciples of good photography, return the gaze of cameras with perfect equanimity.

濱海灣花園東

從滄海變成草坪，再建起高樓與高科技的室內花園，濱海灣的轉變只花了不到五十年的時間。相機只能捕捉這一個瞬間的光影，想找回過去的面貌，只能靠回憶與文字。

一度是市中心最高的建築，位於皇家山（福康寧山）腳的中央消防局現在已經是巨人中的矮子。昔日的「打火厝」仍堅守著崗位，經過它的時候，千萬別忘了致一個註目禮。

Temasek Junior College, Chuan Xin Block

A passing of the torch: the best that can be wished for the legacy of Chinese language and culture on this small island. The third generation of Temasek Junior College’s Chinese Language Elective Programme classrooms will also pass into history, following of the redevelopment of the school building. In a few years, it will be reborn from the ashes, leaving unchanged the spirit of generation after generation of the salaried classes.
