《字花》120期「20周年紀念冊」

　　《字花》20年，是一場文化的實驗，也是一場屬於時代屬於香港的見證，更是一場屬於不同世代讀者和作者的啟蒙與傳承。而這場實驗至今尚未完成尚末完場尚未開到荼蘼。120期正是《字花》20周年的紀念特刊，這次我們會以「紀念冊」為題，分成「造《字花》的人」、「畫《字花》的人」、「賣《字花》的人」，和「讀《字花》的人」四個類別，各自邀請了《字花》歷代創作人馬，以及各方好友讀者們撰寫其花樣百出的回憶故事，或攞景或贈慶或互吹或單打都無任歡迎，只想讓大家還有機會可以在此再念想一下這些或曾經或持續栽種文字開花的人。當然，也是擺明車馬自我感覺良好地懷舊，以配合「字花保育計劃」的正式啟動。

——鄧小樺：未曾完滿的意義，未曾到達的無聊
　　「以意義論，在我看來，《字花》最大的未竟之願，當是所開出的，文學公共性之路。反叛、政治、抗爭，這些字眼在我們之前曾不好提起，到現在又不好提起了，惟是中間這二十年，開出過一路奼紫嫣紅，不能只見當前斷井頹垣。書寫曾被歸納為行動的一種，而集體行動來自於人對自我的信心，與對社會的信任。原來這就是良辰美景奈何天。

　　「《字花》沒有成為炸彈，因為它並不誕生於任何人壟斷性的意志，也不屬於某一個有鮮明主張的集團。在社交媒體尚未流行之前，我們曾對它寄予過容讓更多素人參與、更開放的平台想像。它沒有成為炸彈，其實也沒有什麼不好。這世界出現過那麼多源於良好意願，卻是毁滅性的炸彈——炸毁並不一定代表創造，炸毁其實也可以只是炸毁。」

　　「我想起《字花》創刊前那幾年間，我們身處的環境。經過二〇〇三年，而凝聚了相熟文友間的某種一起合作出版的momentum。往前追溯，那些文友是二千年代初，陸陸續續各自開始建起個人網站和blog，形成blog roll，大家在留言版噓寒問暖而認識的網友。這些網友或blogger，或多或少又曾經是九十年代末大學時代，《新報》副刊、後又獨立出版的《Magpaper》雜誌上投稿過的作者，或它的讀者。」

——梁美萍：一種抵抗消失的方式
　　「香港的空間一直在變，文字的土壤有時像荒原。在這樣的環境裏，「種植」本身變得更不確定。你不知道這些種子會不會發芽，也不知道它們會不會被風帶走。也許正因如此，每一期《字花》的出現，都像一次小小的確認：仍然有人在寫，有人在編，有人在讀。這些看似微小的行動，累積起來，就是一種抵抗消失的方式。」

●讀《字花》的人：
——俞若玫：這場「持久的爆炸」
　　「《字花》最美麗的地方是持續實踐「社會需要文學介入」的承諾。2006年，天星碼頭與皇后碼頭保育運動開始，大力搖動了一整代香港年輕人對保育集體回憶、身分認同以及城市空間權利的文化覺醒。字花》一直把持文學的公共性，大量鼓勵回應時代創作，推動在地故事，地方書寫，以文學抵抗遺忘，讓失語及孤單的年輕人得到建立自己的精神空間及發聲的平台。」

　　「我那些青澀的電郵裡，除了稿件和聯絡方法，還有一行行「個人簡介」，教我忍俊不禁的是，每封每封電郵的介紹皆不同，儼如MSN心情句子：「十七歲半，一事無成，住在新居，因所有的陌生而缺乏安全感。暫時養貓止痛。」、「努力把生命浪費得更有意義一點的中學生。」、「關於詩社社員。補習真係好不知所謂。」這原是我所喜愛《字花》的源由，雖則說來難免臉紅羞澀。」

——沐羽：新手——寫於字花20年
　　初進文學院的新生眼裡肯定是茫然的，如果一名十八歲的台灣學生有聽過《字花》，也實在是博學多聞了。不過再把故事往前推幾年，當我初來台灣時，在研究所的同學師長卻都總有聽過《字花》。這部來自異地的文學雜誌，承載著台灣一道異色的文學風景，有時，當他們尋找現代主義或實驗先鋒的發表場域時，自自然然就想到了香港的《字花》

　　《AI与爱》收录了五篇科幻小说：

 　　Lynn Sun（东方木），科幻编辑。从事科幻内容编辑工作10年+，工作内容涵盖中文原创小说选稿与开发、外文作品引进翻译，以及中文作品向英语和日语等语言的译介。担任过多位星云奖获奖作者作品的责任编辑，并担任詹姆斯·冈恩《科幻之路》（全六册）中文版的翻译总监制。2024 年起担任新加坡科幻品牌 Eastern Wood（异事悟）主编，致力于向世界推广中国优秀科幻作品。

　　我爸爸死了，他们说会还给我一个爸爸。

　　可他已经死了。

　　数字克隆，可以理解是克隆技术的孪生兄弟，升级版的。通过中微子级别的“打印”技术，像3D打印一样重塑人体的血管、肌肉跟骨骼。再加上一颗机械心脏，现有的成果已经足够一副躯体产生循环代谢。当然，错综复杂的神经线是不可能完全建立的，毕竟人类不能真的把自己当成女娲。

　　重点是他们可以模拟人脑的运作，重启存储记忆的海绵体，让克隆体拥有原身的记忆。

　　生物机构在父亲的葬礼上找到我们，他们要“复活”一个英雄。在这之前，克隆人是富豪的专利。他们享受更优质的生活、更完善的医疗，甚至连死亡都成了可选项。可常规意义上的克隆耗资不菲，需要有一整套完善的专业系统维持克隆体的储备和运转。克隆一具人体的耗费，等于挖空一座金矿。

　　直到数字克隆人技术出现，研发集团希望把这项技术推广开来，这是属于平民的克隆。因为价格低廉，义体在制造之初就限定了使用时限，一至六个月内。在这段时间里，人们可以好好地跟死去的亲人告别，弥补死亡时的遗憾。

　　让往生者不留遗憾地离开，让生者不留遗憾地生活，这是多诱人的话术。所以，研究院要选好代言人，明星和富豪显然不太合适——就好像让一个没有消化系统的外星人代言椒盐豌豆，而且克隆体涉及许多复杂的伦理问题。可谁能拒绝复活一个英雄呢？

　　一时间，所有人都在祝福我。包括央求我陪着去医院看她爸爸的那个朋友，我只问了一句：“这福气给你要不要？”

　　如果你问我高不高兴、惊不惊喜，我会让你滚去月球上给坑洞填土玩儿。死了就是死了，干吗要搞一个复制品回来。妈妈说十二岁的我还没有了解死亡的真正含义，才会这样轻易地面对离别。

　　“那你觉得他们送回来的是什么，是爸爸吗？”我问，用笔尖狠狠地在家庭作业上戳了个洞。

　　妈妈坐在椅子上，不安地转了转，很快，她恢复了镇定，用比以往更沉重的语气说：“我没有太多奢望，只需要他……那个人能接送你上下学。”

　　晚上，姑姑哄我睡觉的时候说，妈妈只是一时间适应不了而已。姥姥、姥爷在妈妈很小的时候就去世了，妈妈是寄养在亲戚家长大的。每当我和妈妈产生矛盾，又需要我让步的时候，爸爸就会说我俩是妈妈在世界上唯二的亲人。

　　可我就是想不明白，这个“唯二”竟然是可以替代的吗？

　　“你呢？”我问姑姑，“你认为他们送回来的是爸爸吗？”

　　姑姑沉默了很久：“我也不知道。”

It is sumptuous and kaleidoscopic, as well as engaging and insightful. It is filled with information on traditional cooking techniques, lesser-known botanicals and fish that lie at the foundation of the local cuisines and, true to its title, recipes for not just one, but 4 kinds of mohinga. Beyond the culinary realm, the book also sheds light on the lives, culture and traditions of the myriad people who make this great land.

As with his previous 5 literary endeavours, this book is lavish with food and location photographs, all of which were executed by Koh, who also had a hand in the design and layout of the book.

Loong’s Tales: Comprising five science fiction stories centred on the figure of the Chinese dragon, the anthology presents contemporary Chinese writers’ reimagining of this ancient totem through the lens of modern science and speculative thought.

Spanning themes from genetic engineering and climate change to extraterrestrial civilisation, these stories explore how the image of the dragon evolves alongside technological progress, taking on new forms and meanings in a rapidly changing world. As noted by Xueting C. Ni, the dragon is a shared cultural symbol across civilisations, and in Southeast Asia in particular, the loong continues to inspire visions of the future. This collection brings together writers, editors, and translators from China, Singapore, and the diaspora, offering a rich, cross-cultural dialogue.

The anthology also features a foreword by Michael Swanwick (the five-time Hugo Award-winning author), who describes it as “a body of work by writers who are grappling with the darkest issues of our times but still finding reasons for optimism. Or, if not optimism, at least courage.”

Among the stories, “Regarding Why Humans Have to Seek Dragons” by Baoshu received both the 2025 Galaxy Awards and the Silver prize for Chinese Nebula Awards for Best Short Story. This work, together with “Becoming a Dragon” by Wang Xiaohai, was selected for the 2024 annual recommendation list by the Chinese Science Fiction Database.

More than a reinvention of myth, Loong’s Tales is a sustained enquiry into the relationship between civilisation, nature, and technology. 119期《字花》以「當體育遇上文學」為題，從小說、新聞到翻譯，探索文字如何書寫運動的激情，亦思索運動如何滋養文學的心靈。

喬靖夫以小說捕捉場上的熱血；三島由紀夫、卡繆、村上春樹則在運動中修煉身心。體育新聞展現非虛構文學的潛力，甚至連譯名也蘊含文字的趣味。

In 2017, I started my research on the fate of granduncle Silvestr Nemec, a young Czech employed by the Bata Show Company in Singapore, who volunteered to fight the Japanese when they invaded the island during World War II. He went missing in 1942 and was involved in two historic events of the falls of Singapore: the battle of Pasir Panjang Ridge where the Malay Regiment made their last stands on Bukit Chandu and the Alexandra Hospital massacre.

Over time, my quest produced whole collection of stories that spanned a century and across continents, covering not just Silvestr’s life but also the Bata company in the Far East, other Czechoslovaks who lived in Singapore before and during World War II, as well as my own journey of discovery.

Not in my wildest dreams did I expect that my research would take my so far. On many occasions - such as when I was studying how Tomas Bata organised his business, or what other Batamen captured in their diaries, letters and articles about their works and life in Singapore in 1930s - I could vividly picture Silvestr in those contexts and situations.

My book about my granduncle Silvestr was first published in Czech in October 2020.

The content and communications agency was behind bestselling titles such as The First Fools: B-Sides of Lee Kuan Yew’s A-Team. Not So Little Red Dot: 60 Years of Singapore’s Diplomacy is authorised by MFA to celebrate its 60th anniversary.
