Asian Larder: Asian Ingredients De-mystified◎Sylvia Tan
Regular price $31.00In Asian Larder, veteran food journalist Sylvia Tan, with several cookbooks to her name, opens up her larder to readers and demystifies common and notso- common ingredients found in a typical Asian kitchen. She describes the characteristics of some 130 Asian food products that are indispensable when cooking Asian food – from bottled seasonings, sauces and pastes, to dried food products, spices and herbs. Aside from traditional and well-known standbys such as soya and oyster sauces, Sylvia has also included newer pastes such as laksa, mee siam and green curry that have conveniently come up over the years to cook these very dishes, which our parents had to make from scratch.
The chapters are organised around groups of ingredients, such as sauces, soya bean products, dried vegetables and seafood and so on. And most ingredients will be supported by at least one recipe that illustrate their use in the kitchen. These recipes, which number around 120, can be either traditional or updated; some will illustrate new ways of using the ingredient, but they are all well-loved and valuable standbys in an Asian kitchen.

Doing Good Better: Choices and Paradigms in the Social Ecosystem◎Willie Cheng
Regular price $39.00How can the social ecosystem transform in the new normal? If a charity is in dire need of cash, should it accept a donation that might be tainted? What happens when we place a value on all things in our marketised society? Can the corporate beast be harnessed without reconstituting corporations? Should charities be allowed to run businesses?
Willie Cheng provides his perspectives to these questions and more in his new book, a collection of essays on issues including the social ecosystem in Singapore, market values in society, the role and future of nonprofit organisations, corporate responsibility, “new capitalism”, volunteerism and values.
His analyses and logic are supported by research, case studies and examples gleaned from his many years of experience in both the social and business sectors.
Written in an easy, friendly and readable style, this book provides valuable insights for volunteers, executives and leaders in nonprofits and corporates who want to know how they can succeed in doing good better in the new world order.

Always Have Enough Money◎Tan Ooi Boon
Regular price $31.00is under-valued by almost 100 per cent, or an invitation to invest in a totally new venture that can produce profits that are possibly 10 times of your initial sum?
The answer is none of the above. The reason is simple – the best investment that you can ever make is YOU – in growing your wisdom and knowledge.
For without wisdom and knowledge, even the wealthiest person can end up poor.
And million-dollar income earners can end up with a mountain of debt.
This book aims to guide you to make informed judgments yourself, by learning ways on how you can be better in your financial planning and make all the wise decisions. You can do so only if you confront the reality that there are truly no shortcuts in planning for a comfortable life and retirement. Not everyone can become rich. But all of us can certainly try to avoid being poor – if you succeed in doing so, it means you will always have enough money.

Southeast Asian Contemporary Art Now◎Marc Bollansee
Regular price $118.00Southeast Asia is the last frontier in contemporary art and one of the least known art scenes today because its diversity and outstretched territory make it difficult to access, analyse and assess. Five years of travel, research and interviews have enabled the author to give an extensive overview of the cutting-edge art practices in the region, including painting, sculpture, installation, video, photography and performance.
An in-depth essay covers the situation of the art scenes in the six selected countries and situates Southeast Asian Contemporary Art in a global context. Faithful to his signature method, the author has interviewed around 200 artists to come up with a final selection of 23. These artists have been selected on the perceived quality of content and emotion that are combined with the appropriate raw materials and the latest technology in their artworks. It has been an explicit objective to cover most of the media used by the artists from the region. Vivid discussions with artists, art critics, gallery owners and leading collectors have allowed the author to share and fine-tune his opinions. Final artworks have been selected in collaboration with the artists, and the interaction with them has enabled the author to unlock some of the clues that allow the reader to better understand the content.
